Revenge Porn Helpline Funded For Another Year

Earlier this year, ReputationDefender was saddened to hear that the UK revenge porn helpline was set to close in March 2017 due to government cuts, after successfully helping thousands of people since it was first launched in February 2015.

Now, the government has announced that it will continue to fund the Revenge Porn helpline for another year following complaints from MPs and women’s campaigners. Caroline Dinenage, women’s minister, has said that the service will be kept open until 2018 after securing £80,000 of additional funding.

Revenge porn refers to the act of spreading private sexual videos or pictures without the consent of those involved. This can range from simply showing the material to someone without permission, to posting it on a website with thousands of visitors. The desired result is always the same: to cause personal distress and emotional harm to the victim.

The UK revenge porn helpline has taken 6,000 calls in the past two years.
